VERMILION-LLOYDMINSTER MLA CALLS PROVINCIAL BUDGET A ‘DISASTER’
With a new provincial budget announced by NDP Finance Minister Joe Ceci last week that included a $10 Billion deficit, with plans for another $10 Billion next year, and another $8 Billion the year after, Vermilion-Lloydminster MLA Dr. Richard Starke had some harsh words for the NDP government.
“In my view, this budget represents just one word, disaster,” Starke said Friday. “The implications of this, and subsequent budgets for the next three years leaves the province awash in red ink.
“The government talks about having a strong fiscal capacity without seeming to understand that this money has to be paid back. It’s tragic, really.”
Starke points out some specific areas of concern to him were cuts to the Agriculture budget, from $1.7 Billion to $1.1 Billion, a $600 Million drop. “Rural Alberta wasn’t even mentioned in the budget.”
